Two arrested over Singpass breach scam linked to digital wallets

The Commercial Affairs Department has apprehended two suspects in connection with an organised scam exploiting compromised Singpass digital identity credentials, authorities announced. The investigation revealed that the men used the stolen credentials to set up multiple fraudulent LiquidPay e-wallet accounts without authorisation.

Police discovered that the compromised digital wallets had collectively received more than $110,000 in funds obtained through scam operations. The LiquidPay accounts served as conduits for channelling illicit earnings, highlighting vulnerabilities in how digital identity systems can be exploited for financial fraud.

The case underscores ongoing risks associated with credential compromise in Singapore's digital ecosystem. Singpass, the government's single sign-on platform, is widely used to access public and private sector services, making it an attractive target for organised criminal networks seeking to commit identity fraud and financial crimes.
