IPOH — Two local men have been arrested after police discovered 690 kilogrammes of ketum leaves concealed in a Toyota Alphard on the North-South Expressway near here. Officers conducted the vehicle stop as part of routine traffic enforcement operations, leading to the substantial seizure. The men, whose identities have not been disclosed, were detained for further investigation into the possession of the controlled substance. Ketum, also known as kratom, is a plant whose leaves contain alkaloid compounds and is subject to regulatory controls in Malaysia. The Perak police have transferred the case to the relevant narcotics investigation unit for continued proceedings. Authorities have not released additional details regarding the intended distribution or origin of the confiscated leaves at this time.
