Two individuals were arrested with 11 red sanders logs during a forest operation in the Veeraballi area near Seethampeta in Kadapa district. Police also confiscated a four-wheeler and three mobile phones from the suspects during the operation.
Red sanders, an endangered tree species native to the Eastern Ghats, is highly valued in international markets for its wood and extractive compounds. The illegal felling and smuggling of red sanders remains a persistent concern across forest regions in South India, with organised networks operating across state boundaries.
Following the arrest, local police have called upon residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities observed in forest areas. The authorities emphasised that timely information from the public can help curtail poaching and illegal logging operations in the region.
The arrested individuals have been taken into custody for further investigation. Police said the case is being investigated under relevant wildlife protection laws.
