The Mumbai Indians' search for a new head coach has narrowed down to five leading candidates, according to sources familiar with the selection process. The franchise's shortlist comprises two Australian names—Michael Hussey and Aaron Finch—alongside England's former captain Eoin Morgan, South Africa's Mark Boucher, and Adrian Birrell.
Hussey, a veteran of international cricket who represented Australia across all formats, brings extensive playing experience and has been involved in coaching roles in recent years. Finch, another former Australian international, has also transitioned into coaching and commentary following his playing career. Both bring strong cricket credentials and familiarity with the Indian Premier League.
The inclusion of Morgan reflects the franchise's interest in tapping international captaincy experience, while Boucher's proven track record in developing teams adds another dimension to the selection pool. Birrell rounds out the five-member shortlist with his own coaching background.
The Mumbai Indians will now move forward with detailed interviews and discussions with the shortlisted candidates before making a final appointment. The decision is expected to have significant implications for the franchise's strategy and performance in the coming IPL seasons.
