Two Bangladeshi workers were killed and four others critically injured when Houthi-launched missiles struck Riyadh's King Fahd International Airport on Tuesday. The attack marks the latest in a series of aerial assaults by the Iran-backed militant group against targets in Saudi Arabia's heartland.
The casualties among the Bangladeshi expatriate community underscore the growing risks faced by migrant workers in conflict-affected regions of the Middle East. Bangladesh is home to a substantial population of overseas workers in Saudi Arabia, many employed in construction, hospitality, and service sectors centered around major urban hubs like Riyadh.
The Houthi movement, engaged in a prolonged conflict with the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen, has repeatedly targeted civilian infrastructure in Saudi Arabia with drones and missiles. Previous attacks have damaged airports, oil facilities, and residential areas, prompting heightened security measures and concerns among expatriate communities.
The four injured Bangladeshis were reported to be receiving treatment in intensive care units at local medical facilities. Bangladeshi authorities have been notified of the incident, with diplomatic missions working to coordinate support for the affected nationals and their families. The total casualty toll from the airport attack and extent of infrastructure damage remained under assessment.
