TACLOBAN CITY — Two public secondary schools in Catbalogan City, Samar, suspended face-to-face instruction on Tuesday after receiving a reported online threat involving potential violence. The closure affects Samar National School and Eastern Samar schools, which together serve more than 7,200 students.
Samar National School, the largest secondary institution in Catbalogan, was among the affected facilities as authorities took the precaution seriously. School officials and local law enforcement responded swiftly to the threat report, determining that suspending in-person classes was the most prudent course of action to ensure student and staff safety.
The nature and specific details of the online threat were not immediately disclosed, though officials indicated the warning specifically mentioned possible violence or shooting. Investigators are working to identify the source of the threat and determine its credibility.
