Two dead as construction building collapses in Old Delhi

The structure gave way in Gali Sitara, adjacent to Chawri Bazaar Metro station, at approximately 9:50 am, triggering an immediate emergency response. Officials confirmed that at least two people have been killed in the incident.

Authorities mobilised six fire units along with water tenders and specialised rescue vehicles to the site. Senior officers have taken charge of the ongoing rescue operation as workers and emergency personnel conduct a careful search through the debris for survivors.

The exact cause of the collapse is yet to be established. The incident has raised fresh concerns about safety standards at construction sites across the congested Old Delhi area, which has long struggled with infrastructure challenges and ageing structures.

As rescue operations continue, authorities are working to determine the total number of people present at the site when the building came down. A full investigation into the collapse is expected to follow once the emergency response concludes.
