Two dead in shooting at Ateneo de Zamboanga campus in Mindanao

Ateneo de Zamboanga University in Zamboanga City is reeling from a fatal shooting incident at its Junior High School building. University officials confirmed that two people were killed in the Tuesday morning incident.

PAGADIAN CITY — Ateneo de Zamboanga University (AdZU) is mourning two deaths following a shooting at its Junior High School facility in Barangay Tumaga, Zamboanga City, on Tuesday morning. Fr. Guillrey Anthony "Ernald" Andal, SJ, the university's president, confirmed the fatalities to authorities and the campus community.

The incident occurred within the secondary school building located on the university's Zamboanga City campus. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene following reports of gunfire on the grounds of the Jesuit-run institution.

AdZU officials have not immediately disclosed the identities of the victims or disclosed further details regarding the circumstances that led to the shooting. The university community has been advised to cooperate with law enforcement investigating the incident.

The shooting marks a tragic event for the educational institution, which serves thousands of students from elementary through university levels. Counseling and support services have been made available to affected students, faculty, and staff as the campus community processes the tragedy.
