The arrests were made following an investigation into allegations that the suspects unlawfully detained an individual and demanded Tk 10 lakh as ransom for their release. The operation in Mohammadpur, a locality in the capital region, resulted in the apprehension of all six accused persons involved in the case.
The involvement of the two DGFI personnel has raised concerns about potential abuse of authority by members of the military intelligence agency. The directorate, which operates under the Bangladesh Armed Forces, has faced previous scrutiny regarding allegations of extrajudicial activities.
Authorities have initiated formal proceedings against the arrested individuals and are conducting further interrogation to establish the full scope of their alleged criminal activities. The investigation is expected to determine the roles played by each suspect and identify any other individuals who may have been involved in the abduction and extortion scheme.
The case highlights ongoing challenges authorities face in addressing organized crime and abuse of power. Officials said they remain committed to investigating such allegations thoroughly and ensuring that all individuals involved, regardless of their institutional affiliation, are held accountable under the law.
