Jais director Shahzihan Ahmad confirmed the arrests in relation to the khalwat investigation, which falls under the department's jurisdiction in enforcing Islamic law provisions in the state. Khalwat, defined as close proximity between unmarried individuals of opposite sexes, is prohibited under Islamic law in Malaysia's Muslim-majority states.
The case has drawn attention due to the involvement of a public figure, though authorities have not disclosed the identity of the individual at this stage. The detention follows standard procedures adopted by Jais in similar investigations.
Under Section 29 of the Selangor Syariah Criminal Enactment 1995, those convicted of khalwat face potential penalties including fines and imprisonment. The investigation will determine whether charges will be filed against the detainees.
This development is part of Jais's ongoing enforcement efforts to ensure compliance with Islamic law provisions across Selangor. The department regularly conducts operations to address alleged violations of Syariah regulations in the state.
