Two killed in early-morning hit-and-run near Penang Bridge

GEORGE TOWN — Two people have been killed in a hit-and-run incident near the Penang Bridge interchange, authorities said Tuesday. The collision occurred at approximately 4am when a vehicle struck a motorcycle carrying the two victims.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find the motorcycle severely damaged. Both occupants were pronounced dead at the location, while the vehicle responsible for the incident fled the scene without rendering assistance.

Police have cordoned off the area to conduct investigations and gather evidence. Authorities are appealing for witnesses who may have been in the vicinity at the time of the accident to come forward with information.

The incident has reignited concerns over road safety along the busy Penang Bridge corridor, a critical transportation link connecting Penang Island to the mainland. Traffic authorities are expected to issue updated advisory notices for drivers using the route.
