Two mass shootings in South Africa kill at least 27 people
South African police reported two separate mass shooting incidents near the country's major urban centres, leaving at least 27 people dead. The attacks occurred within hours of each other over the weekend near Johannesburg and Cape Town.

Heavily armed gunmen opened fire at a tavern in Wedela township, southwest of Johannesburg, on Saturday night, killing 17 people, the South African Police Service said on Sunday. Officers reported that the assailants were equipped with AK-47 rifles and pistols during the attack.
In a second incident, a mass shooting at a retail store in Lwandle, near Cape Town, claimed 10 lives in the early hours of Sunday morning around 1 am. Police said preliminary investigations suggest multiple gunmen were involved in both attacks, though no arrests have been made.
The two incidents come just days after another mass shooting at a residential gathering near the coastal city of Durban killed 11 people, including a pregnant woman. That attack has intensified concerns over armed violence in South Africa.
Authorities are actively pursuing leads in both cases. Police said they are searching for multiple suspects in connection with the weekend shootings as investigations continue.
