PENAMPANG, Aug 29 — Authorities in Sabah have apprehended two local men in connection with an extortion scheme targeting a foreigner in Penampang. The suspects allegedly impersonated enforcement officers while demanding money from the victim.
The pair are believed to have posed as legitimate officials to lend credibility to their extortion attempt, successfully obtaining RM1,500 from the foreign national. The scheme was uncovered following a formal complaint lodged with the police.
Investigators have since launched a full inquiry into the incident to establish the modus operandi and determine whether the suspects were involved in similar offences. Police urged the public to verify the credentials of enforcement officers before providing any information or money, cautioning residents against such impersonation tactics commonly used in fraud schemes.
