KUCHING, Aug 28 — The Sessions Court here on Tuesday sentenced the two men following their conviction on charges related to the sexual assault of a minor in the state capital.
The 22-year-old odd-job worker and 20-year-old cook each received 10 years imprisonment coupled with two strokes of the cane under relevant sections of the penal code. Both men were convicted after the court found sufficient evidence establishing their culpability in the incident.
The case has drawn attention to ongoing concerns about the safety of minors in Sarawak, with authorities continuing to investigate related matters. The sentences handed down by the court underscore the judiciary's commitment to protecting vulnerable members of society and holding perpetrators of such offences accountable.
The conviction follows investigations conducted by the Royal Malaysia Police, which presented evidence and witness testimonies during the trial proceedings. Court officials indicated that the severity of the sentences reflected the gravity of the offences committed.
