Two officials remanded in RM1 million graft case involving migrant workers

Two officials have been remanded in custody as part of an investigation into alleged corruption involving approximately RM1 million in bribes, according to law enforcement sources. The case centres on accusations that the officials accepted payments in exchange for failing to take action against irregular employment practices involving migrant workers overseen by a particular agency.

Three employment agents have similarly been held for questioning in connection with the investigation. The agents are suspected of facilitating the alleged bribery scheme as part of arrangements to shield foreign workers from regulatory scrutiny.

The remand was authorised by the court following preliminary investigations into the matter. Authorities did not disclose additional details regarding the specific charges or the duration of the remand at the time of announcement.

The case adds to ongoing concerns about corruption and labour regulation enforcement in Malaysia's employment sector, particularly regarding the oversight of migrant worker programmes. Investigators are continuing their inquiries to establish the full scope of the alleged misconduct and identify any other individuals implicated in the scheme.
