Two Philippine Coast Guard personnel killed in Cotabato City shooting

MANILA — Two Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) personnel were killed in a shooting incident in Cotabato City, the agency said Saturday. The victims were identified as Seaman First Class Reniel Agpalo and Seaman Second Class Louther Jhon Vitor.

The PCG released a statement mourning the deaths of the two servicemen and pledging to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. The agency did not immediately disclose additional details about the shooting, including the time it occurred or the identities of suspected perpetrators.

The incident marks the latest violence involving security forces in Mindanao, where various armed groups have operated. The PCG, tasked with maritime law enforcement and coastal security, has been active in patrolling Philippine waters and conducting anti-smuggling operations in the region.

The agency said it would pursue justice for Agpalo and Vitor as the investigation into the shooting continues. The PCG has not announced any arrests related to the incident as of Saturday.
