Two Durg police personnel were found in an incapacitated state on a roadside in Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh, with an unattended service rifle abandoned nearby. The incident involved an Assistant Sub-Inspector and a constable, both of whom appeared to be under the influence of intoxicating substances.
The discovery raised serious concerns about officer conduct and weapons security protocols. An INSAS rifle, standard issue to Indian police forces, was found lying unattended at the scene, presenting a significant lapse in firearm management and duty procedures.
Following widespread circulation of video footage documenting the incident on social media, police authorities took swift action against the personnel. Both the ASI and constable have been placed under suspension pending further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The incident has drawn attention to discipline standards within the Durg police force and adherence to duty regulations. Authorities have not disclosed additional details regarding the investigation or potential charges that may be filed against the suspended officers.
