Two rookie police officers hurt in Bukidnon checkpoint hit-and-run

VALENCIA CITY, Bukidnon — Two entry-level police patrolmen were injured when a speeding locally-hired vehicle rammed their checkpoint along the national highway in Quezon, Bukidnon on Saturday night, police said Monday. The officers were conducting routine traffic operations when the incident occurred on August 22, according to police traffic investigator PSSg. Jerry Nagac.

The vehicle, identified as a "bao-bao" commonly used for passenger transport in the region, was traveling at high speed when it struck the officers stationed at the roadside checkpoint. The impact left both patrolmen with injuries, prompting an immediate police investigation into the circumstances of the collision.

Authorities have launched an inquiry into the incident to determine whether the driver was intoxicated and whether the collision was intentional or accidental. Investigators are working to identify and locate the driver and secure witness statements from the scene. The case adds to ongoing concerns about the safety of law enforcement personnel conducting highway operations in the region.
