Two Sarawak towns hit 'very unhealthy' air pollution levels

Air pollution levels in Serian and Sri Aman deteriorated to 'very unhealthy' status, with the Air Pollutant Index (API) reaching 229 and 228 respectively as of 4pm Tuesday. The twin Sarawak towns became the latest hotspots in a widening air quality crisis affecting the country. At the same time, 29 other locations nationwide remained within the unhealthy range, indicating a broader environmental challenge stretching across Malaysian territory. The 'very unhealthy' classification, typically triggered by transboundary haze or concentrated local pollution sources, poses significant health risks to vulnerable populations including children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions. Authorities have not yet issued specific advisories regarding outdoor activities or health precautions for the affected areas, though residents are generally advised to limit exposure and monitor official air quality updates regularly.
