Two Singaporeans missing in Nepal flash floods as death toll exceeds 160

Two Singaporeans are among more than 500 tourists reported missing following severe flash floods that swept through Nepal, according to authorities. The disaster has claimed at least 162 lives so far, with the death toll expected to rise as rescue teams continue operations across affected areas.

The missing Singaporeans were part of an organised tour group caught in the flooding. Efforts to locate them and other missing tourists are underway, though challenging weather conditions and difficult terrain in the affected regions are hampering search and rescue operations.

Flash floods in mountainous regions of Nepal occur during heavy rainfall, particularly during the monsoon season. The sudden surge of water and debris can sweep away vehicles, buildings, and people with little warning, making such disasters particularly deadly in populated tourist areas.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Singapore's embassy in Nepal are coordinating with local authorities to gather information on the missing nationals and provide assistance to those affected. Authorities have appealed for patience as rescue operations continue and the full scope of the disaster becomes clearer.

Nepal's government has declared the affected areas disaster zones and mobilised military and civilian rescue teams to search for survivors and retrieve bodies. International assistance has also been requested as the scale of the calamity becomes apparent.
