Two students arrested in Coimbatore caste harassment case

Police arrested two students in Coimbatore on charges of caste-based harassment and torture following the death of a classmate, officials said on Tuesday. The victim's mother alleged that a teacher had publicly humiliated her son and four other students approximately two months ago by making them stand in the classroom, reportedly targeting them for their dietary practices.

According to the complaint, the two arrested students subsequently subjected the victim to sustained harassment and intimidation in the months following the classroom incident. The mother claimed this pattern of abuse continued until her son's death, raising serious concerns about the school's role in protecting vulnerable students from caste-based discrimination.

School authorities have suspended both the headmaster and the teacher named in the allegations pending an investigation. The suspensions were announced following intervention by education department officials and police inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the student's death.

The case has sparked concerns about caste-based discrimination in educational institutions and the need for stricter implementation of anti-bullying and anti-discrimination policies in schools. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the matter.
