Two workers rescued alive from Nepal hydropower tunnel after 10 days
Rescue teams in Nepal have pulled two workers alive from a tunnel at the Trishuli 3A hydropower project, ten days after catastrophic flash floods devastated the region. The men were found following breakthrough communication efforts that detected voices from within the tunnel.

Kabir Maharjan, 45, and Sanjay Sah, 30, were extracted from the tunnel at the Trishuli 3A hydropower project in a significant breakthrough in ongoing rescue operations. Maharjan was employed as a mechanical supervisor at the facility, while Sah worked as a foreman, according to the Public Relations Directorate of the Nepal Army.
The recovery came after rescue teams detected voices emanating from inside the tunnel and successfully established communication with individuals believed to be trapped. Following this development, the Nepal Army and Armed Police Force intensified their search and rescue efforts using specialized equipment to reach the workers.
The two men's rescue marks a rare survival story amid the broader catastrophe triggered by an ice-rock avalanche near the Nepal-Tibet border on August 26. The disaster spawned devastating flash floods that swept through towns and villages in northern Nepal, with the death toll reaching 1,282 by Friday. The Nepal Army-led security command has maintained large-scale search and rescue operations across the affected region.
