Tycoon paid RM27mil for land before ownership secured, court hears

The Kuala Lumpur court heard that Ewe Swee Kheng transferred RM27 million to businessman Zarul Ahmad Zulkifli as payment for Lot 702, despite Ewein Zenith—the company through which he was acquiring the property—not yet holding formal title to the land.

A MACC investigating officer characterised the transaction as a bold move, noting that the payment was made on the basis of an alleged undertaking by Lim Guan Eng regarding the property transfer.

The testimony emerged during proceedings related to the broader investigation into the land transaction. The court was examining the sequence of events and financial arrangements surrounding the acquisition of the property.

The case highlights questions about the procedures followed in securing ownership rights and the conditions under which payment was made prior to formal title transfer. Prosecutors are scrutinising whether proper protocols were adhered to in the transaction chain.

The court continues to hear evidence from various witnesses involved in the matter as the investigation proceeds.
