Tyler Perry converts Atlanta military base into major film production hub

Perry acquired the disused Fort McPherson Army base in Atlanta in 2015 for $30 million, initiating a comprehensive redevelopment that has established the site as a significant media production centre. The facility now features 12 sound stages alongside supporting infrastructure, positioning it as a competitive alternative to established production centres.

The transformation represents more than a commercial venture, incorporating efforts to preserve historically significant structures on the former military grounds while adapting them for contemporary entertainment production requirements. This approach demonstrates how legacy sites can be repositioned to serve modern industry needs without compromising their historical value.

Beyond infrastructure development, Perry's initiative emphasises workforce development and talent cultivation within South Atlanta's creative sector. The production hub is designed to generate employment opportunities and support the emergence of local creative talent, contributing to broader economic growth in the region.

The project reflects a broader trend of major entertainment figures investing in regional production facilities, decentralising content creation away from traditional Hollywood bases and establishing robust alternative hubs that attract productions seeking cost-effective and efficient production environments.
