Chinese state media reported Friday that Typhoon Maysak and the subsequent flooding it triggered across Guangxi have claimed at least 159 lives, with search and rescue operations ongoing for a further ten missing persons. The storm struck the region in early July, unleashing torrential rains that inundated communities across the southwestern province.
Guangxi, located in southern China bordering Vietnam, is no stranger to typhoon activity during the summer months. The region's mountainous terrain and river systems make it particularly vulnerable to flash flooding when tropical storms pass through the area.
