Typhoon Rosal picks up pace; signal remains in 6 areas

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) confirmed Wednesday morning that Super Typhoon Rosal, known internationally as Typhoon Champi, has accelerated slightly as it moves across the eastern seaboard of northern Luzon.

The state weather bureau's 5 a.m. weather bulletin indicated that Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 (TCWS) remained in effect over six areas spanning portions of northern and southern Luzon. The signal warns residents and local government units to prepare for potential hazards from strong winds associated with the typhoon's proximity.

The acceleration of Rosal comes as the storm continues its trajectory across the region. Residents in affected areas are advised to monitor updates from PAGASA and heed warnings from local disaster management officials as the weather situation develops.

No. 1 signals indicate that winds of 39 to 49 kilometers per hour are expected in the affected areas, with the possibility of gusts reaching higher speeds. Authorities have urged the public to secure loose objects and avoid unnecessary travel during the typhoon's passage.
