U.P. Congress urges govt relief for teacher exam candidates over eligibility changes

The Uttar Pradesh Congress party has formally appealed to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to grant relief to candidates preparing for the 2026 state teacher recruitment examinations in light of newly introduced eligibility requirements. Congress state chief Ajay Rai submitted the request based on grievances raised by prospective Trained Graduate Teachers (TGT) and Post Graduate Teachers (PGT) candidates who claim the revised rules disadvantage those already in the examination pipeline.

The party has argued that candidates who began their preparation under the previous eligibility framework should not be penalized by sudden regulatory changes. According to the representation, many aspirants have invested time and resources preparing for the recruitment process, and the modified criteria have created uncertainty about their candidacy.

The Congress has specifically requested a one-time exemption provision that would allow existing candidates to sit for examinations under the original eligibility parameters. Party officials contend that such a transitional measure would be both equitable and administratively feasible.

The demand reflects broader concerns in Uttar Pradesh regarding the fairness of government recruitment processes. Education and employment policy changes frequently trigger protests from aspirant candidates and political opposition parties, particularly when modifications affect thousands of potential applicants.

The state government has not yet responded to the Congress petition. The outcome could set precedent for how the administration handles eligibility modifications in future recruitment cycles across different departments.
