U.S. Furnishes Sri Lankan Navy With Advanced Satellite Communications

The U.S. government has equipped Sri Lanka's naval patrol vessels with an advanced satellite communications system designed to strengthen maritime security operations and improve inter-vessel coordination across the island nation's exclusive economic zone.

The technology transfer represents part of ongoing defence cooperation between Washington and Colombo, reflecting shared interests in maintaining regional maritime stability and combating unlawful activities at sea. The system is expected to enhance the Sri Lanka Navy's capacity to monitor shipping lanes, respond to emergencies, and coordinate multi-vessel operations across Sri Lankan territorial waters.

Official sources indicated the deployment across the offshore patrol fleet marks a significant upgrade to the Navy's communications infrastructure. The advanced system provides improved reliability and range compared to previous equipment, enabling better real-time coordination between vessels and shore-based command centres.
