The USS Tulsa (LCS 16) arrived at Colombo's port on October 7, marking a routine port call for the American naval vessel. The 127.7-metre-long ship is one of the U.S. Navy's Littoral Combat Ships, a class of vessels designed for shallow-water operations and coastal defense missions. The ship's arrival was formally acknowledged by the Sri Lanka Navy, reinforcing maritime cooperation between the two nations.
Commanded by Commander BM Wanier, the USS Tulsa was commissioned into active service on February 16, 2019. The vessel's visit to Colombo provides an opportunity for crew replenishment and logistical resupply during its operations in the region.
The port call reflects ongoing naval engagement between the United States and Sri Lanka, demonstrating continued maritime cooperation in South Asian waters. Such visits facilitate operational coordination and strengthen relationships between friendly naval forces in the Indian Ocean region.
