UAE intercepts Iranian drone amid US-Iran military tensions

The UAE's military said it detected and intercepted a drone launched from Iranian territory on Tuesday, adding that the aircraft had been safely brought down before reaching its intended target. Officials in Abu Dhabi characterized the interception as a routine defensive operation conducted by air defence systems.

The emirate's defence ministry rejected what it described as "false reports" regarding an alleged strike on Al Menhad airbase, a key military installation in the northern Emirates. A statement indicated that the base remained fully operational and that no damage had been sustained.

The incident marked the latest development in a cycle of military escalation between Washington and Tehran, which has intensified in recent weeks. The UAE, a strategic ally of the United States in the region, has previously been targeted by Iran-aligned groups and faced sporadic drone and missile attacks.

Emirates officials did not provide detailed information about the drone's origin or its intended destination, citing operational security concerns. Regional analysts have expressed growing concern about the potential for direct military confrontation between the United States and Iran, with proxy forces and unmanned systems becoming increasingly prevalent tools of conflict.
