The United Democratic Front retained control of the Ayyappankkavu ward seat in the Kochi Corporation during Tuesday's bypoll, with first-time candidate Ajith Kumar A.K. emerging victorious. Kumar secured 549 votes more than his nearest rival P.K. Usman, the CPI(M) incumbent, in a closely contested election that underscored the competitive nature of local body politics in Kerala's largest urban centre. The victory marks Kumar's entry into the corporation council following a successful campaign that capitalised on UDF organisational strength in the ward.
