UE urges alumnus Zalameda to uphold Constitution as new Chief Justice

MANILA—The University of the East expressed confidence Friday that its alumnus, newly-appointed Supreme Court Chief Justice Rodil Zalameda, will remain steadfast in upholding the Constitution and ensuring fairness within the judiciary.

Zalameda, who earned his bachelor's degree in political science from UE Manila, assumes leadership of the country's highest court at a critical juncture for the Philippine legal system. The university said it hopes he will draw on his educational foundation to guide the judiciary with integrity.

The UE community extended its well-wishes to the Chief Justice, expressing confidence that he will demonstrate the courage necessary to defend constitutional principles and advance judicial independence. His appointment marks a significant milestone for the institution, which counts among its notable alumni several prominent figures in Philippine law and governance.

As head of the Supreme Court, Zalameda will oversee the resolution of cases involving constitutional matters and lead the judiciary during a period when public trust in institutions remains under scrutiny across the region.
