UEFA President Ceferin reverses decision, to seek re-election in 2027

UEFA announced on Wednesday that Ceferin would reconsider his previous stance and pursue another term as president of European football's governing body. The decision came after all 55 national football associations represented within UEFA formally requested that the Slovenian executive reverse his earlier decision to step down.

Ceferin, who has led UEFA since 2016, had previously indicated he would not seek re-election. However, the unprecedented unified backing from member nations appears to have prompted him to change course and remain at the helm of one of global sport's most influential organisations.

The UEFA president's continued leadership ensures continuity in the governance of European football during a period of significant change in the sport, including discussions around tournament formats and the financial structures supporting clubs and national teams across the continent.

Ceferin's potential re-election in 2027 would extend his tenure beyond a decade at the organisation's helm, positioning him to shape UEFA's direction during a transformative period for professional football in Europe.
