The University Grants Commission has directed higher educational institutions across India to actively participate in the BRICS Sustainable Lifestyle Week scheduled for November 1 to 7, 2026. The advisory forms part of efforts to align with Mission LiFE, the government's flagship programme focused on promoting environmentally conscious living practices among citizens.

The UGC has encouraged colleges to organise a range of activities designed to foster sustainable habits and raise awareness about ecological responsibility. These initiatives are intended to engage students and faculty in practical demonstrations of eco-friendly practices that can be adopted in daily life.

The directive reflects India's commitment to environmental sustainability within the broader BRICS framework, which brings together Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa in collaborative efforts on global issues. The scheduled week aims to leverage educational institutions as platforms for promoting behavioural change toward more sustainable lifestyles.

College administrators have been asked to design programmes that resonate with their institutional contexts while adhering to the overarching objectives of the sustainability week. The initiative seeks to create a ripple effect, encouraging students to become advocates for sustainable practices within their families and communities.
