UGC-NET exam to be re-conducted in September following June cancellation

The Centre has committed to conducting the UGC-NET examination in September following the cancellation of the June 2026 session, according to submissions made to the Delhi High Court. The decision comes after the earlier exam was scrapped due to unforeseen circumstances, affecting thousands of aspirants nationwide. The rescheduled examination will be staggered across two days to ensure proper conduct and logistics management. English and Commerce papers are scheduled for September 9, while the Sociology paper will be held on September 10. The National Testing Agency (NTA), which administers the exam, will release the detailed examination schedule and admit cards well in advance to allow candidates adequate time for preparation. The UGC-NET examination is a crucial qualifier for academics seeking assistant professor positions and junior research fellowships at Indian universities and research institutions. Candidates who were registered for the June session will be automatically considered for the September examination, officials indicated.
