UK brings first charges against suspect in 1994 Rwanda genocide
A 65-year-old man will face Westminster Magistrates' Court on Tuesday accused of involvement in the Rwandan genocide that claimed an estimated 800,000 lives. The case marks the first criminal prosecution in Britain related to the 1994 atrocities.

Dr Vincent Brown, formerly known as Dr Vincent Bajinya, is charged with seven offences related to his alleged participation in the genocide that devastated Rwanda three decades ago. He is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court in London on Tuesday.
The genocide unfolded over approximately 100 days in 1994, resulting in one of the deadliest conflicts in modern history. Hundreds of thousands of Tutsis and moderate Hutus were systematically killed by Hutu extremists and militia groups.
International efforts to prosecute those responsible for the atrocities have continued through various mechanisms, including the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, established by the United Nations. A number of countries have opened domestic investigations and prosecutions against alleged perpetrators residing within their borders.
The charges against Brown represent a significant development in the UK's legal response to the genocide. British authorities have increasingly pursued cases against individuals suspected of involvement in large-scale atrocities who have sought refuge or settled in the country.
