British authorities have accused a civil servant of orchestrating an elaborate fraud scheme by simultaneously holding eight government positions over a nearly four-year period. Kashim Chowdhury, 55, allegedly earned £349,378 from February 2020 through September 2023 while securing multiple full-time roles across various government departments.
According to allegations, Chowdhury maintained five concurrent full-time positions while being contracted to work 183 hours per week—an arrangement that would have been physically impossible to fulfill. Investigators claim he fraudulently obtained these posts without disclosing his other employment, thereby drawing salary from multiple sources simultaneously.
The case highlights potential vulnerabilities in background verification procedures across UK government departments. Chowdhury denies all nine counts of fraud filed against him, asserting that his employment arrangements were legitimate. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine whether other government employees may have engaged in similar misconduct or whether systemic oversight failures enabled the alleged scheme to continue undetected for several years.
