UKM hospital achieves dual World Stroke Organisation certifications

KUALA LUMPUR — Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM), the teaching hospital of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, has achieved a national first by securing two World Stroke Organisation (WSO) certifications simultaneously.

The dual accreditation recognises the institution's excellence in comprehensive stroke management and represents the only medical centre in Malaysia to hold both designations concurrently. The certifications validate HCTM's commitment to delivering world-class stroke care and adherence to international clinical standards.

The achievement reflects the hospital's investment in advanced infrastructure, specialist training, and multi-disciplinary stroke protocols. HCTM operates a dedicated stroke unit equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities, alongside a team of neurologists and allied health professionals trained to international standards.

Stroke remains a leading cause of disability and mortality in Malaysia and across the Asia-Pacific region. The dual certification positions HCTM as a regional centre of excellence for stroke prevention, acute management, and rehabilitation services.

The accreditations underscore UKM's academic and clinical leadership in neurology and vascular care, setting a benchmark for stroke management practices across Malaysian healthcare institutions.
