Ukraine Death Toll Rises as Russia Intensifies Missile Campaign

Ukrainian authorities reported at least 28 deaths following a new wave of Russian missile strikes targeting civilian areas across the country. The casualty figures underscore the continued toll of the conflict on Ukraine's civilian population, now entering its third year.

Pryluky, a city in northern Ukraine, bore the brunt of the assault when a Russian missile destroyed a five-storey residential building, resulting in the heaviest concentration of losses from the day's attacks. Emergency services worked to extract survivors from the rubble and treat the wounded.

President Zelensky characterised the strikes as particularly vile, adding his voice to growing international condemnation of Russian military tactics that have repeatedly targeted residential neighbourhoods and civilian infrastructure throughout the conflict.

The attacks come as Russia has intensified its campaign against Ukrainian cities in recent months, utilising long-range missiles to strike targets across the country. Ukraine's military has attempted to intercept incoming projectiles, but many continue to reach their targets, resulting in civilian casualties and infrastructure damage.
