Ukraine reports Starlink service restored after week-long disruption

Ukraine's armed forces confirmed on Monday that Starlink satellite internet connectivity has been restored to full capacity following a period of reduced service. The week-long throttling of the SpaceX-operated network had affected communications across multiple operational areas, Ukrainian officials said.

The timing of the service disruption drew scrutiny as it occurred during negotiations between the United States and Russia over energy sector agreements. US President Donald Trump had announced discussions regarding Russian diesel purchases while simultaneously urging Kyiv to curtail military operations targeting Russian oil refineries, according to reports.

SpaceX and Ukrainian authorities have not provided detailed technical explanations for the outage. However, the incident raised questions about potential external factors affecting the satellite service, which has become critical infrastructure for Ukrainian military operations and civilian communications since Russia's 2022 invasion.

Starlink has served as a vital connectivity lifeline for Ukraine, particularly in regions where conventional telecommunications infrastructure has been damaged by conflict. The service's restoration comes as Ukraine continues to assess the impact of the week-long disruption on ongoing operations and civilian access to communications networks.

Neither SpaceX nor the Ukrainian government has announced additional safeguards to prevent similar incidents in the future.
