Ukraine targets Russian tech infrastructure with third data centre strike
A Ukrainian drone attack has disabled a major data centre operated by Russian technology company Yandex, disrupting services across Russia and neighbouring countries. The strike marks the third attack on Yandex facilities in four days as Kyiv escalates its campaign against critical infrastructure deep within Russian territory.

Ukraine's military struck a Yandex data centre in Vladimir, a city east of Moscow, on Sunday, causing widespread service outages across the Russian technology giant's platform. The attack resulted in complete operational shutdown at the facility, with no reported casualties, according to Yandex Cloud.
The disruption cascaded across multiple countries and services. Users in dozens of Russian cities, as well as customers in Kazakhstan, Belarus and Armenia, were unable to access ride-hailing and banking services powered by Yandex's infrastructure, according to Russian independent news outlet Astra.
The attack represents a significant escalation in Ukraine's targeting of Russian technological infrastructure. Sunday's strike followed two previous drone attacks on Yandex facilities within a four-day window, signalling a coordinated campaign to degrade Russia's digital capabilities.
The strikes reflect the broader aerial conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which have been locked in a long-range drone and missile war while ground forces remain largely deadlocked. Ukraine's targeting of data centres mirrors earlier Russian attacks on digital infrastructure within Ukrainian territory, as both nations pursue asymmetric strategies more than 4.5 years into Moscow's full-scale invasion.
