Umno, PAS must begin negotiations now for Perak cooperation

Umno and PAS should begin negotiations immediately if they wish to establish a working cooperation framework in Perak, according to Ibnu Rasyeed Mat Isa, a representative of the federal party.
Ibnu Rasyeed outlined several key criteria that should guide any seat-sharing arrangement between the two parties. Electoral performance records, the depth of grassroots organization in specific constituencies, operational capacity of party machinery, and realistic assessments of winning chances must all factor into seat distribution discussions, he indicated.
The statement comes as both parties weigh the political implications of potential alliances ahead of upcoming state-level developments in Perak. Such arrangements have become increasingly common in Malaysian politics, with parties seeking to maximize electoral efficiency through selective cooperation in targeted constituencies.
The timing of negotiations is critical, Ibnu Rasyeed suggested, as early discussion would allow both organizations adequate time to prepare campaign strategies and finalize candidate selections based on mutually agreed parameters.
No official response from PAS leadership has been issued regarding the call for negotiations.
