Umno-PAS talks in Kedah signal potential coalition cooperation

An informal meeting between Umno and PAS representatives in Kedah has laid groundwork for potential deeper cooperation between the two parties, signalling a possible shift in their political alignment at the state level.

Kedah Umno chief Mahdzir Amir said the discussions provided an opportunity for more serious talks between the two parties at senior levels of leadership. The informal nature of the meeting underscored the exploratory phase of any potential collaboration, he indicated.

The meeting comes amid broader realignments within Malaysia's political landscape, with various coalitions testing partnership possibilities ahead of future electoral contests. Kedah has traditionally been a competitive political battleground, with control of the state assembly frequently shifting between different party alliances.
