Umno politician accuses Amanah of applying double standards on coalitions

KUALA LUMPUR — An Umno politician has criticised what he characterises as inconsistent standards applied by Amanah regarding political cooperation, suggesting the Islamic party cannot simultaneously praise alliances that serve its interests while condemning similar arrangements benefiting others.

Shamsul Anuar Nasarah raised the point in response to Amanah's recent criticisms of various political partnerships, arguing that principled politics should not shift depending on whose coalition is under scrutiny.

"Is political cooperation dignified when it benefits your side, but undignified when others engage in it?" Shamsul Anuar questioned, implying that Amanah's position lacks consistency.

The exchange reflects broader tensions within Malaysia's political landscape, where coalition-building has become increasingly fluid. Both Umno and Amanah have been part of different political arrangements in recent years, sometimes as allies and sometimes as opponents.

The criticism underscores recurring debates about political principles versus pragmatism in Malaysian politics, with parties frequently navigating shifting alliances based on electoral calculations and policy considerations.
