UN Chief Calls for Intensified Global Response to Rohingya Crisis
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has urged the international community to reinvigorate efforts to address the protracted Rohingya humanitarian emergency. The UN chief's appeal underscores the persistent nature of a crisis that has seen hundreds of thousands seek refuge, primarily in neighbouring Bangladesh and Malaysia.
Beyond humanitarian concerns, the Secretary-General highlighted growing threats posed by misinformation campaigns and hate speech directed at the Rohingya community. Such messaging has circulated widely across the region, fueling social tensions and complicating efforts to secure durable solutions for the displaced population.
The Rohingya crisis remains one of the world's most pressing displacement emergencies, with little progress toward voluntary repatriation or meaningful integration in host countries. Guterres's remarks reflect mounting international concern that without sustained engagement and coordinated action, the situation risks deteriorating further, with vulnerable populations—particularly children and women—facing heightened risks.
