UN warns of surge in violence against women across Gaza

The UN Population Fund (UNFPA) said it has recorded significant increases in reports of violence directed at women and girls in Gaza, reflecting the deteriorating conditions in the territory. The agency's assessment identifies a pattern of heightened abuse coinciding with broader instability and displacement affecting civilian populations.

Beyond immediate violence, the UNFPA documented a severe escalation in early and forced marriage cases. Child marriages, often undertaken as families face economic hardship and insecurity, have become increasingly prevalent as protection mechanisms weaken and safeguarding systems break down across Gaza.

The findings underscore mounting concerns among humanitarian organizations about the gendered impact of prolonged conflict.
