A suspected underworld figure was admitted to Balapitiya Base Hospital with gunshot wounds after an armed confrontation with police in the Akadigoda area of Induruwa on the south coast. Kosgoda Police said the incident occurred when officers from the Walana Anti-Corruption Task Force conducted a raid on a house in the locality.

According to police accounts, two underworld operatives were present at the residence when officers arrived. The suspects allegedly opened fire on the police team, prompting officers to return fire in self-defence. The exchange resulted in one of the suspects sustaining injuries and being taken into custody.

The injured individual was transported to Balapitiya Base Hospital for treatment. Police investigations into the incident are ongoing, with authorities examining circumstances surrounding the confrontation and the activities of those involved.
