MANILA — The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the University of the Philippines Diliman have established a formal partnership to enhance the Philippines' capacity in demographic research and population data utilization, officials announced following the signing of an implementing agreement.
UNFPA Philippines Country Representative Neus Bernabeu and UP Diliman Chancellor Edgardo Carlo L. Vistan II inked the accord, marking a commitment to strengthen institutional mechanisms for analyzing and applying population data to national policy and planning.
The partnership responds to demographic transitions facing the Philippines, including evolving population structures and changing reproductive health patterns. By combining UNFPA's technical expertise with UP Diliman's research capabilities, the collaboration aims to generate evidence-based insights to inform government decision-making across health, education, and social development sectors.
