Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to touch down in Kolkata on Saturday evening as part of a visit to experience the city's celebrated Durga Puja celebrations. The high-profile visit comes during the peak festive season when elaborate pandals across the metropolis draw millions of devotees and tourists.
During his stay, Shah will undertake a tour of prominent Durga Puja marquees across various localities in Kolkata. The Union home minister's visit underscores the BJP's engagement with major cultural and religious events across the country, particularly in West Bengal, a state where the party has been working to consolidate its political presence.
Shah will be accommodated at a guest house in the Alipore area of South Kolkata during his overnight stay. On Sunday, before his departure, he has scheduled a visit to Belur Math, the international headquarters of the Ramakrishna Mission, one of India's most prominent spiritual and social service organizations.
The visit marks Shah's continued engagement with the eastern region and reflects the government's efforts to maintain high-level political presence during major festivals and cultural occasions.
