Union Minister L. Murughan has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting permission to step down from his position in the Union cabinet and his seat in the Rajya Sabha, according to reports on Wednesday.

In his communication to the Prime Minister, Murughan outlined his plan to focus exclusively on organizational work for the BJP in Tamil Nadu. He expressed his desire to intensify ground-level engagement, meeting constituents across villages and villages to strengthen the party's base ahead of the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.

The minister indicated his commitment to expand the party's organizational infrastructure and work closely with party workers at the grassroots level. His decision reflects a strategic shift in focus toward consolidating the BJP's political presence in the southern state, where the party has been seeking to expand its electoral footprint.
